Almost time to get the pumpkin scooped out and carved isn't it? Being a tradtional type of person I shall be risking slicing off my precious fingers, using a very sharp and very large knife! None of this 'dremel' type tool carving for me. No, I shall be telling the kids to stand back, WAY back whilst I perilously cut uneven triangles out of my hollowed out pumkin. I do quite fancy trying a turnip this year, after all, that is how it all started, with turnips, in Ireland I do beleive. If you happen to be in Ireland for this time of year I can highly recommend the Hallowe'en brac and if you are a single girl, lucky enough to find a ring in there you will soon be married (so they say anyway) Great fun! Well, I might trust the boys with a spoon to scoop the middle out. Or could that actually be classed as a form of child abuse? Such a job that is!
Another 'favourite' for our family Hallowe'en preparations is to get some sweets or cakes ready. Last year we made up a whole tray of toffee apples and then lo and behold NO ONE knocked on the door. I blame the miserable old farts who put those posters up at their doors. It's so unecessary in this little place.
We always take our boys along this row of houses and we teach them to be respctful about it. Knock once and then walk away if they don't answer and of course be polite. I cringe with embarrassment when our youngest loudly declares he doesn't like THOSE sweets Oh noooo!
We had the school party on Friday, it was good to see the kids having fun for free, makes a nice change and I applaud the school for that. Next week is the real thing. I hope you all have lots of fun and keep safe. WooooOOOOoooo!
